Committees Minimize

Education Committee

This committee’s mission is to “oversee the planning of the educational activities of the association, including Winter Convention, ADCON and regional workshops, as well as learning tools members can use at their individual operations.” With a focus on the bigger picture of serving members through a variety of offerings, this committee will help maximize MPA value to those who need us most.

2011 Chair:
Jim Young
Oceana's Herald Journal

Better Newspaper Contest Committee

The committee’s mission is to make sure our annual newspaper contest rules reflect the wishes of the general membership. Should the committee find itself with a contentious issue that leads to a “tie vote” the MPA Board stands ready to resolve the matter in question.

2011 Chair:
David Green
State Line Observer

Public Policy Committee

The committee’s mission is to work with the MPA executive director and the public affairs manager to identify and monitor state and federal legislation of interest to the newspapers of Michigan, and in a larger sense, those who care about government of the people, by the people and for the people. The committee will suggest and help implement proactive public outreach efforts to nurture a more open government in Michigan.

2011 Chair:
Dirk Milliman
Milliman Communications

Membership Committee

The committee’s “traditional” mission is to review applications for MPA membership and present the same to the Board for review during quarterly meetings.

2011 Chair:
Bill Speer
The Alpena News

Newspaper Careers Committee

In a nutshell, the committee’s mission is to “Promote newspapering, in all its aspects, as a career worthy of the consideration of young people.”

2011 Chair:
Joe Warner
