Purpose
The Michigan Press Association Foundation was created in 1980 to further the interests of community journalism in Michigan.
- To
serve the public interest by encouraging, fostering and aiding
improvement in the quality, vigor and fairness of journalism and a free
press in the state of Michigan.
- To
make scholarships, grants, stipends, gifts and to provide financial aid
to worthy journalism students in Michigan who show
outstanding promise and achievement.
- To
make awards, grants and gifts to members of the journalism profession
and to Michigan newspapers in recognition of outstanding achievement in
reporting, writing, editing, photojournalism and newspaper publishing.
- To foster learning and sponsor research programs and projects.
- To
make financial donations and grants to Michigan colleges, universities
and other learning institutions to support and improve the quality of
the teaching of journalism.
- To
promote public awareness in Michigan of the role of a free press in our
Republic and to encourage public involvement in the activities of
Michigan newspapers.
Fund-Raising
The
Foundation was established as a non-profit corporation. Being such,
most revenue taken in originates from tax deductible contributions. But
the Foundation also organizes and holds fun, entertaining fund-raising
events each year to help with achieving those goals. Golf Outing
